The B+ Squad

A website for the modern bisexual.

  • If a bisexual person does it, is it automatically bisexual news?

Okay I got busy today so this one is gong to be short and sweet. So I think we’re all aware that legacy queer publications like Out and The Advocatehave basically become barely-better-than-clickbait blogs with a publication philosophy roughly along the lines of “if it’s queer, it appears!” Did an LGBTQ person let out a fart in public?…

  • Bi furious.

When I first came out as bisexual, back in the prehistoric era of 1997, there was one thing I knew for sure: Now that I was out, I needed to be proud. Pride was, and remains, a central facet of the queer experience. Our parades? Pride parades. Our annual celebrations? Pride months (or at least weeks)….

  • Leave it to the experts.

Now that I have been a Professional Bisexual™️ for quite some time, my friends routinely send me anything bisexuality related that happens to cross their paths. The most recent thing sent to me? This Astral Codex Ten essay that attempts to make sense of the higher rates of long COVID among bisexuals. Buckle up, kids, cause we’re going…

  • Can we not?

For a long time — the vast majority of the decades I have spent as an out bi woman! — I was pretty checked out when it came to writing about bisexuality. Then, last fall, I began writing short essays about bisexuality nearly every goddamn day. The motivation for these wildly opposed states, one in…

  • About that Mo’Nique special

So I’ll be honest: when I first started getting Google alerts telling me that Mo’Nique had come out as bi in a recent Netflix special, my main reaction was a “Well, good for her,” and a shrug. I did not feel compelled to watch an entire hour+ comedy special just because someone came out as bisexual…

  • Against myth busting.

There’s this phrase that routinely pops up when people are attempting to, ahem, combat biphobia. It is a phrase that I have referenced multiple times over the course of writing this newsletter, almost always in a wry sarcastic manner, because quite frankly, I fucking hate this phrase. You know what it is, because I mentioned…

A website for the modern bisexual.

In the fall of 2023, I noticed something strange. After a flurry of interest of interest in bisexuality — packages devoted to Bisexual Awareness Week, article after article about how biphobia was real and the bisexuals were, in fact, struggling — Bisexual Awareness Week had once again descended upon us and there was… nothing. No dedicated weeks on any of my favorite sites. No essays rehashing old and new bisexual gripes. Even the pitches I sent in about bisexuality generated little to no interest from editors.

It seemed that the media world was just… done with bisexuals.

And as a frustrated bisexual with a lot of things to say, I decided to do what every writer was doing: I started a newsletter about bisexuality. Welcome to The B+ Squad.

All essays I’ve written on bisexuality — including ones from the project’s Substack era — are on this site. If you’d like to support the project (and get bonuses for yourself, including early access to essays), you can check out my Patreon.
