A website for the modern bisexual.

  • The myth of the enthusiastic ally.

In the mid-1990s, when I was a young adolescent, I was very very into queer culture. While my peers were obsessing over Ross kissing Rachel on Friends, I was devouring Armistead Maupin’s Tales of the City series, learning lingo like “butch” and “nelly” and getting an education about the logistics of public sex. If you had asked young…

  • Insider finally ran a good bi essay

Regular readers of this newsletter are likely aware that at this point, Insider essays about bisexuality are basically a running joke for me. The site runs a fair number of them, and they’re usually bad: almost always cis white women with male partners whose gaze is so firmly affixed to their own navels that it’s a wonder…

  • The bi identity

Maybe a year and a half ago, back when I was working on a proposal for a book about bisexual womanhood, a book proposal that ultimately did not sell but did eventually inspire me to launch this email, there was a question that I kept getting asked, one that frustrated me to no end. My book was…

  • If EmRata can’t get a girlfriend, then what hope is there for the rest of us?

If you are the kind of person who religiously tracks which celebrities are coming out as bi (and for your own sanity, I sincerely hope that you are not), then you are already likely aware that a few months ago, Emily Ratajkowski came out as bi through, uh, a TikTok about green couches. I mean, whatever, it’s…

  • Who’s the queerest of them all?

I am, as has been well established throughout this newsletter’s many installments, a bisexual woman. I am also, for those of you who don’t know what I look like, on the more feminine side of the gender presentation spectrum. I’m not the girliest girl by any stretch of the imagination, but no one would ever…

  • The subtle bi reveal.

There’s an unfinished newsletter that’s been sitting in my Substack drafts folder since… I mean probably since I first started this newsletter last fall, honestly. It’s titled “I am begging you to have higher standards,” and opens by talking about a tweet I’d been sent about Andor’s subtle bisexual reveal (one so subtle that, months later,…

A website for the modern bisexual.

In the fall of 2023, I noticed something strange. After a flurry of interest of interest in bisexuality — packages devoted to Bisexual Awareness Week, article after article about how biphobia was real and the bisexuals were, in fact, struggling — Bisexual Awareness Week had once again descended upon us and there was… nothing. No dedicated weeks on any of my favorite sites. No essays rehashing old and new bisexual gripes. Even the pitches I sent in about bisexuality generated little to no interest from editors.

It seemed that the media world was just… done with bisexuals.

And as a frustrated bisexual with a lot of things to say, I decided to do what every writer was doing: I started a newsletter about bisexuality. Welcome to The B+ Squad.

All essays I’ve written on bisexuality — including ones from the project’s Substack era — are on this site. If you’d like to support the project (and get bonuses for yourself, including early access to essays), you can check out my Patreon.
