The B+ Squad

A website for the modern bisexual.

  • Barack O-bi-ma

As a representation starved people, bisexuals have employed a number of desperate measures to secure evidence of the existence of our own kind. A celebrity says that they’re straight but not narrow? Bisexual. A dead guy who was convicted of sodomy was also married to a woman? Bisexual. Emily Dickinson existed? Bisexual. Cast off statements,…

  • How many words for “bisexual” do we need?

I had a tweet a few years ago that was along the lines of “Gender identity is like dreams: I’m happy you when you feel fulfilled by yours and I don’t want to hear a detailed explanation of them.” As far as I’m concerned, the main thing I need to know about anyone’s gender identity…

  • Bi vampires

Greetings from the shores of the Chesapeake Bay, folks! My vacation has been a lovely one so far, in case anyone was wondering. But that’s not what this newsletter is about, is it. You want to hear about the bisexuals. And today — inspired by a comment left by Owen Michael — I want to talk about bisexual vampires. Bisexual vampires!…

  • Vector theory

It’s a sad reality that many people remain insistent on seeing human sexuality as something that can be easily broken down into two camps, the “straights” and the “queers.” This is stupid for so many reasons — not least that it relies on a Western and specifically Christian understanding of sexuality and gender in order…

  • Latent gay, or…

Cheers to metasequoiana for leaving this thoughtful comment on yesterday’s newsletter: I’ve been thinking, lately, about how monosexism breaks people’s brains, how it creates this false binary that forces people to disavow decades of lived experiences, decades of identity, in order to make sense of their present situation. I want to be clear about something before we…

  • I’m a bi stereotype, and I’m okay.

Okay, so: is anyone else watching The Afterparty on Apple TV+? It’s a fun little mystery show currently in its second season, I think I’m liking the second season more than I liked the first (possibly because I can’t stand Dave Franco and even though he was the first season murder victim he was still in the…

A website for the modern bisexual.

In the fall of 2023, I noticed something strange. After a flurry of interest of interest in bisexuality — packages devoted to Bisexual Awareness Week, article after article about how biphobia was real and the bisexuals were, in fact, struggling — Bisexual Awareness Week had once again descended upon us and there was… nothing. No dedicated weeks on any of my favorite sites. No essays rehashing old and new bisexual gripes. Even the pitches I sent in about bisexuality generated little to no interest from editors.

It seemed that the media world was just… done with bisexuals.

And as a frustrated bisexual with a lot of things to say, I decided to do what every writer was doing: I started a newsletter about bisexuality. Welcome to The B+ Squad.

All essays I’ve written on bisexuality — including ones from the project’s Substack era — are on this site. If you’d like to support the project (and get bonuses for yourself, including early access to essays), you can check out my Patreon.
