A website for the modern bisexual.

  • The revolution will not be driven by celebrity sex lives.

Many years ago, when I was a significantly more chaotic person who made vastly worse choices in her dating life, I had a brief fling with a total mess of a man. He was a restaurant worker and aspiring gossip blogger with a vicious streak running through him; he was given to brash and violent…

  • 1 LGBTQ+.

I don’t know how much attention you have been paying to the news about the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank (aka SVB, and don’t worry, you don’t need to know much about it for this essay) and I don’t know if you are a regular reader of the Wall Street Journal (I, myself, am not), but the…

  • A dislocated anxiety.

Earlier today, I stumbled across a person asking if they were allowed to call themselves bisexual if they were also attracted to trans people — you know, a variation on the same boring query we see again and again and again. I responded with my standard boilerplate: there are plenty of trans and non-binary bisexuals,…

  • Can virgins experience biphobia?

As a general rule, when people talk about oppression related to sexual orientation, they think about it in terms of oppression related to being in a same gender relationship (or, potentially, gender expression — drag show bans feel like one part suppression of gay culture and one part an attack on trans lives, for instance)….

  • Let this be the end of the bi v pan debate

So from the very beginning of this newsletter I’ve been very open about why I identify as/default to the term “bisexual” as opposed to pansexual (or polysexual or omnisexual or what have you), and why I favor the “bi+ umbrella” phrasing over the more newfangled mspec (which I think stands for something like multiamorous spectrum?).  Fundamentally, I…

  • I can only be the person that I am.

When I was 17, and newly arrived in New York City, I went to Meow Mix — also known as the dyke bar that briefly appears in Chasing Amy, and regrettably, a bar that no longer exists — with a friend, I think for some 18+ femme night (yes, I had a fake ID). In the…

A website for the modern bisexual.

In the fall of 2023, I noticed something strange. After a flurry of interest of interest in bisexuality — packages devoted to Bisexual Awareness Week, article after article about how biphobia was real and the bisexuals were, in fact, struggling — Bisexual Awareness Week had once again descended upon us and there was… nothing. No dedicated weeks on any of my favorite sites. No essays rehashing old and new bisexual gripes. Even the pitches I sent in about bisexuality generated little to no interest from editors.

It seemed that the media world was just… done with bisexuals.

And as a frustrated bisexual with a lot of things to say, I decided to do what every writer was doing: I started a newsletter about bisexuality. Welcome to The B+ Squad.

All essays I’ve written on bisexuality — including ones from the project’s Substack era — are on this site. If you’d like to support the project (and get bonuses for yourself, including early access to essays), you can check out my Patreon.
