  • Scott Pilgrim Takes On Bisexuality

Let me start by saying this: when I first saw the teaser trailer for Netflix’s Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, my initial reaction was, “Really? This again? Are we that out of ideas?” I don’t remember when I first read the Scott Pilgrim comic books, though based on where I was living at the time and the fact that all volumes…

  • Why does this feel like phrenology

There’s a new University of Michigan-helmed study about bisexuality, peeps, and it just dropped in Science Advances — and the press release has been picked up by all the usual suspects because… I guess “science!” and “bisexuality!” is just too tempting a combo to ignore. Although I am the daughter of two scientists, I don’t really have the…

  • Lost in translation

I mentioned yesterday that I am trying to improve my Hebrew. There are a couple reasons why I’ve been doing that. First, it’s just a thing to do as the world burns: it’s way more fun to talk about She-Ra in Hebrew and learn about the complexities of the different tenses and verb forms than it is…

  • On being clickbait

There’s this thing that happens sometimes, where you’re clicking through the news, or through the Google alerts you masochistically set up to alert you to any time that someone says “bisexual” in the media, and you see a headline like: Comedian Fern Brady: ‘Bloody everyone says they are bisexual now’ It is natural, I think,…

  • I don’t need you to understand me

[This is the soundtrack to this essay] I am often befuddled by how much time and energy is spent attempting to decipher queerness, and bisexuality in particular, for a mass audience. And even more than that, I’m befuddled by the anger some people express when other people simply fail to grasp the nuances of their sexual desires…

  • A very bisexual Star Trek

Friends, I did it: I finished my DS9 rewatch. I won’t bore you with tons of commentary on the show (if you want that feel free to email me directly), but I will say that one thing that really popped out to me this time around was how bisexual the show really is. Not overtly, of course,…

A website for the modern bisexual.

In the fall of 2023, I noticed something strange. After a flurry of interest of interest in bisexuality — packages devoted to Bisexual Awareness Week, article after article about how biphobia was real and the bisexuals were, in fact, struggling — Bisexual Awareness Week had once again descended upon us and there was… nothing. No dedicated weeks on any of my favorite sites. No essays rehashing old and new bisexual gripes. Even the pitches I sent in about bisexuality generated little to no interest from editors.

It seemed that the media world was just… done with bisexuals.

And as a frustrated bisexual with a lot of things to say, I decided to do what every writer was doing: I started a newsletter about bisexuality. Welcome to The B+ Squad.

All essays I’ve written on bisexuality — including ones from the project’s Substack era — are on this site. If you’d like to support the project (and get bonuses for yourself, including early access to essays), you can check out my Patreon.
