  • What binds us in the end.

Not long after the Club Q shooting, as the details began to come out, I saw someone make an offhand comment after learning that the gun man had been subdued by an unarmed patron. It wasn’t a good guy with a gun who’d stop shooters, the person quipped, but rather a good gay with no gun. It…

  • When there is nothing you can say.

I know exactly where I was when a shooter entered Orlando’s Pulse nightclub, killing 49 people and wounding 53 others. I was in the second bedroom of my Lower East Side apartment, a room that had been outfitted into a combo office for me and care and feeding room for my cat. I was curled…

  • I forgot to get a girlfriend before the end of the world.

As you may (or, if you’re a sane person with a rich social life, may not) be aware, Twitter is apparently in its death throes: the bulk of the engineering team has quit, crucial departments are utterly unstaffed, everyone’s just holding their breath until one major (or minor) earthquake leaves the whole house in rubble….

  • Bisexual feeeeeeelings.

For many years, I liked to think of myself as a Ming vase wrapped in an elephant hide. Yes, I knew that at my core there was a delicate, fragile heart, but throughout my teens and twenties I had worked hard to encase that part of me in a tough, impenetrable exterior. Abuse me, neglect…

  • The inconstancy of being bisexual.

As a general rule, most people do not deal well with change. Certainty is a valued quality. Even if something is foreign and confusing, there’s a comfort to the idea that it will remain fixed — that even if you never really understand it, it will remain exactly as incomprehensible tomorrow as it was today,…

  • Okay but why does representation matter?

These days it is largely taken as a fact that Representation Matters™️. It’s a sentiment often expressed in hashtag form, usually accompanied by a photo of a marginalized child lovingly gazing at a person in power who looks like them, or proudly standing next to a movie poster featuring, again, someone who looks like them….

A website for the modern bisexual.

In the fall of 2023, I noticed something strange. After a flurry of interest of interest in bisexuality — packages devoted to Bisexual Awareness Week, article after article about how biphobia was real and the bisexuals were, in fact, struggling — Bisexual Awareness Week had once again descended upon us and there was… nothing. No dedicated weeks on any of my favorite sites. No essays rehashing old and new bisexual gripes. Even the pitches I sent in about bisexuality generated little to no interest from editors.

It seemed that the media world was just… done with bisexuals.

And as a frustrated bisexual with a lot of things to say, I decided to do what every writer was doing: I started a newsletter about bisexuality. Welcome to The B+ Squad.

All essays I’ve written on bisexuality — including ones from the project’s Substack era — are on this site. If you’d like to support the project (and get bonuses for yourself, including early access to essays), you can check out my Patreon.
